Accessing Spss from the Lab in 155 SST

<li>go to and open M: (Uglapps directory)

<li>click Ant174

<li>click spss

<li>click (header) Name (sort by Name)

<li>files will be in order:

<li>stds01.sav

<li>...

<li>stds64.sav

<li>click on the file that has one or more of your <a href="stdsstud.html">variables</a>

<li>spss will open the file (186 rows for societies, click a column to see the variable)

<li>click view / value labels to see codings

<li>click analysis / descriptive / crosstabs

<li>pick two variables

<li>run cross tab

<li>click Merge / Variables

<li>click file with second set of <a href="stdsstud.html">variables</a>

<li>TO CHANGE THE APPEARANCE OF A CROSSTAB

<li>Edit > Option > Output Labels

<li>change each of the four windows, e.g.

<li>Names and Labels etc if you want both numbers of variables or values AND
the title
