Some Responses to Student Questions about Anthropology Careers

Education Abroad (EAP) and International Opportunities (IOP)

You can get CREDIT ABROAD FOR ANTHROPOLOGY through the EAP and IOP programs, which are strongly encouraged by our Anthro department! As advisor I would like to meet with any of you interested in going abroad on EAP or IOP and I have in my office the EAP Academic Advisor's Manual for Anthropology (including Archaeology) The sites with information are:
  • Systemwide Education Abroad Opportunities: check out "academic information", and you can find anthropology under most of the countries.
  • EAP at UCI has one of the UC system's best EAP counseling systems for international education oportunities in anthropology
  • IOP in the same office has research and job opportunities in anthropology overseas and elsewhere.

  • You can also subscribe to the education abroad listserver for up to date information.

Those of you who HAVE BEEN or ARE GOING on EAP or IOP, please send me a note about your experience to share with other students.

    Hello Professor White-
It's Sholly Gunter. I don't know if you remember me, as it has been some time since I've spoken to you.  You helped me get my EAP business in order during fall quarter. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I got accepted to attend the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.  I'm so pleased, and really looking forward to the classes I'll be taking there. I also got accepted to the summer paleontology program in Kenya that I was interested in.
I'm going to learn so much during the six weeks I'm there.  I am still working with Professor Boyd on my honors thesis.  My topic has changed a bit, but it is looking pretty good. I am so grateful to you for introducing me to him. He is a wonderfully intelligent man, and a lot of fun to talk to.  Anyway, I just wanted to let you know what was going on and say thank you for your help with everything.
    Regards,
Sholly Gunter (see Sholly's EAP html page)
